The Museum of Ontario Archaeology is seeking a Camp Counselor for the summer season. Anticipated start date is June 9 through to August 29, 2025. This position is 35 hrs/week, $17.20/hr. This position is contingent on the successful funding through the Canada Summer Jobs program and candidates must meet the eligibility requirements outlined below.
The Camp Counselor will assist the Public and Education Programmer with the delivery of our Summer Kid's Day Camp Program. The Camp Counselor position will provide an opportunity for youth interested in the field of education, archaeology, history, museum studies, First Nations studies, environment or similar, to gain experience working with children between the ages of 6-12. The Counselor will also develop limited supervisory and program development skills. Program development of camp will have a nature and local heritage theme throughout.

Work Tasks and Responsibilities include:- Assisting the Camp Coordinator in the management and supervision of day campers,
- Assisting with the training of Junior Counselors,
- Planning and delivering day-to-day camp activities,
- Assisting in the administration, planning and supervision of Summer Day Camp,
- Monitoring camp craft supplies and materials for camp crafts, games, and activities,
- Ensuring the maintenance of a clean and safe camp environment.
- Experience working with children (in a classroom or camp setting would be an asset),
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills,
- Able and willing to work with a diversity of children, making accommodations when needed,
- The ability to work independently and in a team environment,
- Affinity for nature or being outdoors,
- First Aid Certification is required,
- A clean criminal record and vulnerable sector check prior to employment,
- Preference will be given to applicants who have completed at least some post-secondary education.
The successful candidate must meet the criteria of the Canada Summer Jobs program. We strongly encourage First Nations, Metis and Inuit students, and students from other underrepresented groups to apply. An ideal candidate will have a background in Anthropology, Public History, Education, Museum Studies, First Nations studies, Environmental Studies, Geography or similar University program, and possess both a positive attitude and a strong work ethic. Prior work with children or volunteer experience at a museum or historic site would be an asset.
