Imperial Recruitment Group are delighted to announce that we are working in partnership with Middlesbrough College who are recruiting for a Mental Health & Wellbeing Officer on a permanent basis.

Salary: 24,142 - 25,756 per annum

Contract Type: Permanent

Location: Middlesbrough College

Hours: 37 hours per week, Term time only

Purpose of the Role

The Wellbeing Officer will provide support to the college in many ways and will support students in their mental health and wellbeing to create a future of resilience and independence. This will include providing individual and small group interventions for students who require support and to provide relevant signposting, advice and guidance.

The Post Holder will demonstrate model behaviours that are consistent with an open, inclusive and participative style, and be proactive in identifying and pursuing opportunities that are appropriate to maintaining professional development.

Responsibilities:

  • To provide wellbeing interventions, advice, guidance, and support for students experiencing low to medium mental health difficulties to enable them to succeed at college.
  • To support the delivery of a social prescribing model of mental wellbeing support for Middlesbrough College students.
  • To raise awareness in relation to mental health and wellbeing and contribute to campaigns and wellbeing self-help materials to increase understanding of the areas of mental health across the college.
  • To have student retention as a key measure of impact and success of wellbeing interventions and services.
  • To maintain accurate, confidential, and up-to-date records of student information and of intervention on all cases of safeguarding and mental health concerns and to collate this data and generate reports where required.
  • Provide emergency response to students experiencing mental health crisis, providing effective liaison between key stakeholders in supporting the student, including conducting risk assessments and formulating mental health safety plans
  • Provide generic information and advice to college staff on matters concerning mental health.
  • To support at enrolment with wellbeing and mental health disclosures.
  • Make appropriate referrals to external agencies (statutory and charitable/third sector) where appropriate.
  • Respond appropriately to safeguarding disclosures and concerns which relate to the welfare and well-being of students in a timely manner, including liaising with both internal and external colleagues.
  • Actively seek supervision for all aspects of role, recognising personal and professional boundaries and limitations.
  • To attend and contribute to internal and external meetings including relevant team and training events and partnership meetings, representing the college where required.

Experience/Qualifications:

  • Experience of working in a student facing role.
  • Relevant ongoing professional development and updating of knowledge.
  • Working with young people with mental health difficulties, and ability to implement support requirements within the context of an FE environment.
  • Risk assessment and safety planning processes in relation to a range of mental health conditions and interpersonal difficulties.
  • Planning and delivering presentations and creating learning resources for workshop or training contexts.
  • Delivery of specific interventions e.g., mindfulness, support for drug and alcohol -related or sexual harassment/violence concerns.
  • The ideal candidate should have a level 3 qualification or above in a relevant discipline
  • Personal commitment to Continuous Professional Development.
  • Grade C or above in Maths and English (or equivalent).
  • Relevant degree or professional qualification in Mental Health Support
  • Mental Health First Aid trainer accreditation
  • Level 3 -5 Safeguarding training
