Mind-body integration

Trained mind-body practitioners support a wide range of conditions, addressing the ‘whole’ person by integrating spiritual, physical, mental, and emotional practices to help others achieve balance in their lives.

What is mind-body integration?

Many alternative and complementary therapies are considered to be integrative or holistic and are widely accepted for their overall health and wellbeing benefits.

Mind-body approaches focus on the relationship between the body and the mind by combining mental focus, controlled breathing, and specific body movements into an integrative practice. This can be centred around one system such as yoga or Pilates, or within a combined plan taken by a fitness coach who places equal importance on the body and mind to achieve your goals.

Energy therapy techniques aim to balance energy flow in the body to promote healing and relaxation and may be practised independently or integrated into a more holistic wellbeing plan.

There is currently no professional statutory regulation of complementary and alternative wellbeing practices in the UK, however there are many professional bodies and voluntary registers that can help you decide how to train and teach in these fields.

You can specialise in one area, or train in different types of mind-body approaches and energy therapies to bring a variety of techniques and skills into your practice.

"The mind-body concept is connected with the relationship between the mind and the body and how mental processes and physical processes affect each other."
